Iverem
Hi there! My name is Iverem. I am a Tiv girl from Central Nigeria. My name, Iverem, is pronounced 'ee-veh-rem,' and it means blessing and favor in the Tiv language. I am from Benue state, which is in the central part of Nigeria. Benue state is popular for agriculture, music, dance, and masquerade festivals. Tiv people are very industrious: women make pottery; men weave cotton, baskets, and make furniture.
Fun Facts About Me:
I have an older sister named Doofan, and we are very close. I am very passionate about the environment and conscious of global warming. I will like to be an environmentalist so that I can advocate for a cleaner world. My hobbies include dancing, reading, attending festivals, and playing a local musical instrument called 'adiguve' (similar to a violin). I go to the same school as Aisha, sometimes she sings along to some songs I play in music class. The Tiv people are avid storytellers, and we have great proverbs as well. My favorite proverb is "Bua u uma den u vishigh tsa ga," which means "A cow that is alive will never stop swinging its tail." Never give up! That is the moral of the proverb. I have lived by it, and I hope you will too.
